Zambia: Poverty Assessment for Cash Transfer Schemes.

We spent much of August and September piloting a new approach to large-area poverty assessment in Zambia. The work is part of a plan to take cash transfer schemes, which are currently being tested in a number of small projects, to national scale. The project addressed the need for high quality information, collected and analysed at a cost that can be sustained locally. This project was funded by DfID (www.dfid.gov.uk) through the southern Africa Regional Hunger and Vulnerability Programme (RHVP) . The field assessment will be facilitated by CARE (www.care.org).
